Heyas all, few of my buds had mentioned this game and I had just gone done programming some stuff so I thought I would give it a try.
First off, skimmed thru tutorial more or less, and built a little dinghy and went off to see what I could do. Immediatelly found an asteroid and got out and took a decent chunk of it apart by hand... when someone mentioned to me that you could use mining beams... whoops.
Went back to station, acquired salvage beams and a bunch of salvage controllers, and fiddled with it for awhile before learning that you really only want 1 controller because they link up that way (and to be very careful to not ever accidentally remove the controller after placing them or you get screwed). Mined a few more roids, found an npc station, gladily took it apart and sold the lights and stuff.
Did more of that for awhile: find stuff, mine it, go back, build a bigger ship, etc. Eventually decided to build a tiny fighter ship to go fight some pirates... and after some difficulty I just set the weapon range to max and sniped them using build mode to walk my shots (heh). After raiding a single pirate base, looting everything (and finding out that stuff apparently just disintegrates if you have full inventory when picking it up... ugh), I had several stacks of Lv5 minerals... and instantly became a billionare/max credit... and... erm... it felt a bit broken for sure.
Anyway, with no more money worries I upgraded my ship some more, went and stripped a few planets, and then tried to figure out what to do... so I decided to build a culture orbital. Progress so far:

Building it near the starting station, because after all whats the point of something if no one sees it? Started it on a roid, found out build blocks don't work and ended up having to do it all in fps mode by hand, which was a pain in the ass (plus cant rotate corners, argh!). Built a station next to it for storage of my ship (after figuring out how the docking thing could actually work for a ship that size), and kept at it for awhile. Really need that build block working, plus a copy slice/chunk function would be awesome.... either that or the ability to lay down multiple blocks at once by hand (pattern fill?).
In the meantime, everyone else was hunting pirates, building stations, salvaging stations, or shooting each other. I could see it being some decent fun if we had more people with some faction shenanigans going on... though factions are kind of lacking right now and need a lot of work/options.
I had a few factory things down in my station, but in the end I never even really touched em. Theres just no good intro to em, and I think you cant even put em in a ship so they aren't easily accessed, and I didn't really ever see the need to make anything. I 'might' have to make some glass eventually (and it would be great if I could make hardened glass), but right now I don't know if I'll touch em.
Overall, decent fun to start, multiplayer definitely helps it, but of course its got a ways to go (alpha and all).
