Explosion graphics

    Simple enough.

    Scale up the explosion sprite to match the blast radius of the explosion and the damage of the missile. Maybe slap a Star Wars esque shock ring model into the mix or something, I dunno.

    Please. It'd make gameplay videos and trailers a lot better. >_>

    Nope, the current explosions don't scale and only create a very small number of particles. Some code changes are absolutely necessary. This might be something that micdoodle8 or bspkrs could do, though, IDK

    Death to shockrings! They look cheap, pull me out of the movie, and make me think about CGI computer farms.

    Particle traces ejected from the explosion core outward in random directions look better and are more realistic. (Especially if the particle effect can be effected by gravity.) The downside is increased computer processing during combat. (Typically countered with mostly-pre-calculated vector arrays.)

    How about an explosion 2x the max dimension of ship Y when core overheat timer expires as well? Particles would be swell too. Just vanishing is lame.

    Edit to op: I think scaling a sprite might end up looking kinda crappy for the really big radius missiles, might be better to do with a textured polygon sphere?
