I've found that there's a bug with splitting stacks and selling items that allows for easy item duplication and increasing wealth. Here's how to reproduce it:
0. Prerequisites:
- Be near enough to a shop to interact with it.
- Have a stack of multiple items (any item will do, from what I've experienced).
- Take note of your credits balance, the amount of items you have and the shop's stock of that item.
1. Take any item you have multiple of and place them in an inventory slot (as opposed to hotbar).
2. Rightclick the stack to 'split' it and take 1 item from the stack.
3. Place the singular item you split off to the left or right of the larger stack.
4. Now drag the larger stack to the 'Drop here to sell' area and drop it there.
5. A pop-up appears, displaying transaction information, among which the number of items being sold.
6. Note the number of items reflects the amount of the larger of the two stacks (e.g. 10, rather than 1).
7. Click the button to confirm the transaction and note the following:
- The stack containing 1 item has disappeared from your inventory, yet the stack containing 10 has not.
- Your credits balance has increased by the amount selling the larger stack would provide.
- The shop's stock has increased by the number of items you just thought you sold (e.g. 10, not 1).
This process can be repeated over and over, effectively doing the following
> Start out with 10 items in inventory
Cycle 1:
> Sell 9, but lose 1 = 9 in inventory
> Buyback the 9 items you sold = 18 items in inventory
> Profit made = 9 - 1 = 8 items worth
Cycle 2:
> Sell 17, but lose 1 = 17 in inventory
> Buyback the 17 items you sold = 34 items in inventory
> Profit made = 17 - 1 = 16 items worth
Cycle n:
> Sell , lose 1 = in inventory
> Buyback of = + items in inventory
> Profit made = items worth.
You see where this is going...it can be repeated virtually ad infinitum, although shops start complaining when they have 10.000 of a particular item in stock.
