"docking area to small" when it isn't

so i am trying to dock a ship that i downloaded from the ships page( spacysalads to be exact) and when i try to dock it it says target area to small, or somthing to that effect. i build the dock very VERY large to avoid these problems. here is the pic so you can see what i mean. http://i.imgur.com/Vmph2.jpg

(Holy shir thats my ship! :D) well erhm...the docking,can be only estabilished when the core,is revealed (the below side of the core) then you can dock,until schema or beetlebear will add separated docking clamp/module wich will be able to dock like dock to dock....now its sadly impossible with ships like mine (core is covered behind blocks,thats reason)

I see, cool ship by the way, howevver i dont think any of my ships will fit in the docking bay..other then runabouts(core,1 power, 1 thruster so i dont have to flote around space) the rest of my ships are very large.
