Any advice on making money in this game?

The fastest way to get credits is to kill pirate ships and loot pirate bases, or mine out an ice planet. Pirates drop random items, some of which can be sold for >1,000,000 credits (Level 5 ore), and ice planets are made entirely out of materials with at or above 100x the credit value of equivalent materials from the other planet types.

Eating empty stations seems to work plenty fast too.
