Constructing Turrets in Shipyard Design Mode?

Seems pretty much broken right now. I can go to my shipyard, make a new design, and enter design mode. From here I use the Ctrl-Menu "Create Docking" option just like normal, but when I get out of the base ship core and into the turret core it kicks me from Design Mode and I have to use my own blocks if I want to build on the turret. Interestingly, when I trash the turret it seems I get to keep the free rail docker and ship core (hurray?).

Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

Super broken. On the forums now looking for a solution and came upon this thread. Losing my mind trying to get turrets setup in design mode. I really hope an update is coming soon, 1 level deep docked entities seem to work OK but the 2nd level is completely broken it seems.
