Connectivity and lag issues in multiplayer

StarMade is the only game I've ever played where I've been able to get a ping of 40,000. This, unfortunately, happens most days when I try to play multiplayer. Sometimes, however, whether it's for hours or minutes, my ping will happily sit at 100, juust like everyone else's. Suddenly, my ping will shoot up to 500, then 1000, then 10,000, rendering the game completely unplayable.

Initially I thought it was a problem with my internet, but no. With my ping still at 40,000, I'm able to stream videos in 720p without a hitch. So what's the problem? It isn't my internet, I'm fairly sure. Am I having trouble connecting to some central server, because all Starmade servers give me the same problem whether they're based in the EU or the US.

That is, of course, when I'm even able to connect. I find that high latency usually coincides with an inability to even connect to servers in the event that I reconnect in an attempt to fix the lag.

Alpha is alpha, I know, but even for an alpha this issue is a little peculiar. Bugs and random crashes I can handle, but an arbitrary inability to connect to servers running a specific game when it doesn't appear as though anybody else is really having that problem?

It's probably worth noting that I have no problem playing singleplayer.

    Any ideas?

i have largely the same problem, its a bit diferent for me though. i cant host my own server and play with a couple friends perfectly with no problem, but as soon as i try to get on a public or even whitelisted server the lag makes it unplayable. missiles wont fire 90% of the time, i cant destroy any blocks with cannons, people telporting, the chat not updating and my ping goes to rediculouse levels. and this only happens on public servers, if i or a friend host it will be fine until it starts getting runtime errors. i think this is a problem that should be focoused on, new features are great and all but what good are they if we can barely play?

come to think of it i remeber minecraft having the same problem. ive not been on a public server in minecraft since beta so i dont know if thats been fix for them yet, but again i can host my own minecraft server and play with some friends just fine, probably because of the ammount of players.
