is there a way to combine 2 stations into a single one? i have spawned next to each other and tried to connect them and save a blueprint but with no luck. does anyone know if this is possible?

It's not possible to connect two stations. If you're in single player, increase your build mode dimensions (found in the server cfg, try using ctrl+f to find "max") until they're large enough to hold the smaller station. Copy the station, save the copy, delete the smaller station, and then paste in the copy on the larger one.
If the station is large, it might be a good idea to do it in chunks instead of all at once, also.

The closest thing would be to re-create one of the stations as a ship and attach it with rail docking. Actually, that would be a fun way to create a mothball-ship-station. (The kind of fictional space station made of a bunch of different ships all attached. I liked the looks of one such station in the movie Titan A.E.)
