Can build blocks use power?

I'm trying to make a shielded gun tower on a planet, but I can't seem to get the build block to link to the power generators/shields. Is there something I'm missing or are they not compatible?

Build blocks are not compatible to be linked to shields and power. Only ship cores can do that. Since it is a planet, you can\'t link them to anything.

That\'s disappointing. Is there any sort of alternative option for what I want to do?

A guntower would be a turret docked to a tower. The turret\'s shielding will be different from the planets shielding.
