The idea behind this is, instead of having a set color of hull for each block, and set weapon blocks, and set effect blocks, set up changeable block groups.
So, say you make a ship, where you use excusively two different colors of hull/armor on a ship. In the blueprint you can set those blocks to a block group, and the color and armor rating can be changed when you build the ship in a shipyard, allowing for a variety of ship colors and tiers from only one blueprint. The same can be done for weapons and weapon effects, if you use only cannons on a ship, you can set up a weapons group, which can be changed to beams, pulse, or missiles, upon construction.
