What would you guys think about having the possibility to be on friendly terms with the pirates in StarMade? Perhaps trough some quest or something? I'm not saying you should be able to join their faction (although some people might want that) but at least we might be able to make peace? Off course it should be fairly difficult to do so. It might also be useful when trading (and raiding traders) becomes more important.

Admin join the pirate faction, set to public.
Without further admin interaction, players can only become the lowest rank pirates, but it may be a starting point.

EDIT: A word of caution though, it is possible the pirate faction gets dissolved when the last player leaves, because they don't have an actual founder. It may be wise to delete and recreate the pirate faction first using admin commands, with an imaginary founder, so there will always be one top pirate. I'd advise on testing this in a separate install first for obvious reasons ; )

I find it interesting that pirates would be friendly to eachother globally, when really, pirates in general don't care who they're stealing from.

Being able to join the pirate faction, amongst other public NPC factions, would be pretty neato though.

Pirates as a faction will be revisited when we expand the races, civilizations and factions that you're able to encounter and interact with.
Nice! I look forward to that :D

Well, people like other people more if they share something. If that is piracy... So be it. They're still more likely to like other pirates then they are to like the trade guild :p

Maybe getting flagged as a pirate for attacking neutral players could work?

Attack a player your not at war with or neutral npcs and get flagged for a short period of time, or choose to be a pirate full time by starting your own pirate faction.

And perhaps the ability to place a bounty on players flagged as such?

I like the general Idea of joining a NPC faction, in this case the pirates, and gaining some reward for some penalty (not attacked by pirate-stations, but by all other factions ), but there should also be a automated way of getting fired - Like shooting down a faction mate, otherwise you could abuse the system easily: Joining the pirates and raiding them without getting counter-attacked etc (i think for the "shooting at" version there is even a faction option to activate for Valck 's way of doing an improvised version for now).

The most intressting part about joining another npc-faction is the possibility for a "nomad" kind of style where you could use the pirate-stations for a home (or thinking further the trading station for another npc faction example) and still be without a "real" home.
Could also come in handy for starting players, to join such a faction.

Not joining and still be friendly could be achieved by paying the regular "insurance".

That would be a nice feature. But only for NPC factions. I don't think a player controlled pirate faction should have that feature.

Id' be kinda funny though. Joining AI factions could have special things about them a player faction doesn't while making a player faction would have traits that joining an AI faction doesn't.

Some servers already hash this together with ducktape and prayer, and a few commands.

I do like the idea and I believe that once NPCs, quests etc will be in and factions in general will be improved (possibly with new ones introduced and the current changed from one-word-described generic archetypes) there will be a way for one to change their predispostion.
