Batteries vs. Cannons

Is it more effective/efficient to use many small guns or one large gun?
One cannon block deals 25 damage where 2 gives 36 ( I think) and it scales at roughly that rate with each block. Would it be better or more ideal to use a lot of few-block guns ir a handful of large guns?

Large cannons as you call them are kinda necessary after a point. You can only shoot forward unless you have turrets, and unless you want your ship to be a giant flying wall facing your enemy (which is bad, because you\'d be a big target), you\'re going to run out of places to mount small guns. With large cannons you can connect 15-20 of them and only have 1 block actually visible to fire, which lets you hide the rest of the \"cannon\" inside your ship, protecting it and boosting your damage far more than you could manage with a bunch of single ones attached all over.

Couldn\'t you just as easily mount a battery on a turret?
