Simple enough idea, may be difficult to implement.

Decorative fog blocks that do not render as blocks, but rather work for a volumetric fog effect. Fog color determined by link to light block, whether it's as master or slave (slave the fog to the light would be ideal simply because of Shift+V). Fog density and view distance determined by some other factor, perhaps.

Light blocks light up the fog effect like with glass and ice. All projectiles pass through the fog. The fog has zero contribution to system HP and structure HP, and only 1 HP as a block. The fog has 0.0 mass.

Fog effects would allow for more control over the visuals of a structure's interior (or exterior, if you want, I suppose), and therefore more ship customization.

Not disagreeing, but in a limited way this is even in the game already - using hidden beacon blocks for "fog effects lite".

Doesn't work out for large areas like hangars and such, sadly.

Weren't we going to get a particle system at some point? This would probably be in it.
