Suns produce cubatom streams. These are heading toward planets (like a line which connectes the planet to the sun)

    Collect them with stations around:

    • the sun: cheap, low storage (see below)
    • the planet: you need multiple
    • the sun, planet and inbetween those: a lot of choices to attack for raiders.

What this cubatom-stream contains, is dependent on the sun-type.

That generates something to fight for, as some cubatoms may be found in streams of very rare star-types.

They are limited by the production rate of this sun and the time you need to travel from one of these suns to each other.

Station storage would be mass^0.5 and requires plex-stores for cubatom items (conversible both-way to exactly 1 group of cubatoms).

They could encurage trade (should cubatoms not be trade-able directly?) with rare items.

I would even go that far to make the production rate of different cubatom types dependent on where the sun is located.

You could find some rare +++ article around a --- sector sun, but it would produce way less - just to make it possible to create 1 rare item each day.

Rare cubatoms would simply produce items that are 2* a normal one. Weapons, Shields, Power, Thrust (Artefacts).

But an artefact would require 100 or more rare cubatoms, not just 2 common.

    ======================================

    SUMMARY / ADVANTAGES:

    1. Players would build stations.
    2. Cubatoms get a purpose other than being exploids.
    3. Would encurage trading and gives opportunities for raids / wars between factions.
    4. Distracts from harvesting planets. Some players would prefer efficient to big ships.

I think it's a win for everybody. Schema, because there are less suggestion threads about broken shop-system, players, because the game makes suddently fun to play.
