Allow players to leave #general

Request:
Allow players to leave the #general chat channel, or at least admins.

Rationale:
Currently, players can "close" the channel, but that does not eliminate noise in their chat channel window, which is of particular concern for those that are logged into multiple channels.

As an admin, I'll often login but just idle on the server, watching for any excessive lag spikes, abuse around spawn, or just being ready to help at request (via PMs and a dedicated help channel).

The ignore function is not very useful for cleaning up this, as it requires manually ignoring each and every logged-in pilot upon every relog.

Manual ignores further requires other pilots to act, before they're able to ignore a narcissistic player, and/or waiting for an admin to mute. These various responses accumulate into what's essentially a waste of everyone's time - in particular for those that track multiple channels.

Players can close the #general chat channel, but #general messages still popup in red text (in older versions). The popups were distracting, and unnecessary. In current versions, #general chatter still pollutes a player's chat window, especially when multiple #general participants start feeling compelled to leak internal dialogs through their fingers...

Further, it becomes increasingly difficult to actually catch PMs, or messages in multiple other monitored chat channels, as a constant stream of noise from #general has the tendency to simply drown-out messages from channels that a player is actually interested in tracking.

you're an admin, part of your job is to watch general for abuse and spam. Personally, I would have considered that spam and told him to shut up.

Himself ...maybe in-part also responding to PMs via #general, because of the awkward chat interface.

We have multiple players that do this. Some are worse than others.

Sometimes I do wonder if it's a script of some sort - it's the oddest thing...

Yea, yea...I understand that... Although some of these players are quite talented - what they're doing appears to be a compulsion. We're certainly not trying to accommodate the spammer or otherwise abusive player, and many do in-fact respond to requests to quiet-down. Other players simply are not interested in seeing any #general chatter, excessive or not.

Kind of like a nutter that stands on the street corner...except we can walk away from them, right?

What harm could come, from granting pilots an ability to simply walk away from (e.g. leave) #general.
