Here's more suggestions:
Have a faction higscore, so there is a tangible feeling of acomplishment.
Have minerals and crystals abundant and poor in different systems, for dat sweet territory claim wars.
Have the ability to snuff out stars for power (helium or hidrogen for fusion reactors?).
Have a contract with npcs to have them mine entire planets for you. Preferably the mining occurs in the planet's resource numbers, so if a planet has 1000 of some mineral , after sometime it will have 638 by only taking the blocks that are that mineral. And they will keep it in storage just for you :3
create your own breed of super miners from alien DNA! But only if schine wants to go that way.
