So, basically, i find the current docking systems tricky to use, especially on my bigger ships.
Heres my idea: Docking rails, motored rails, and docking clamps.
USES:
Docking Rails:
Motored Rails(turntables?):
Docking Clamps:
ALL PROPOSED SYSTEMS MUST CONNECT TO ANOTHER ON THE SHIP TO WORK
HOW RAILS WORK:
'Loose' when not connected to a motor: Ships can move freely on the rail
'Firm' when connected to a motor: Ships can ONLY be moved by said motor
Direction can be set in build mode
Ships automatically 'launch' when they reach the end of the rail
Thanks, and please tell me if you have any ideas!

USES:
Docking Rails:
- Forces a ship to move along the set direction(s) of the rail
- Engines are usable
Motored Rails(turntables?):
- Same as above, but move ships independently
- Cannot be placed on a ship
Docking Clamps:
- Like ordinary docking systems, but can attach anywhere on the ship
