We all know that it is annoying that when we dock, we can't change which direction our ship/turret is facing when docked (turrets are also in a position when buying a ship). That's why I suggest that the docked structure will simply face the direction in relation to its direction facing when docking. So if a fighter flies to a carrier and the carrier is facing the fighter, then when it docks it will be facing backwards since the fighter was facing the backwards direction in relation to the docking module.

Also, when you have clicked the docking module with your docking beam, your ship becomes non physical and slowly moves towards the docking modules and then docks, instead of teleporting like it does now.

Maybe also have some sort of magnetic force locking the ship into place like KSP instead of magically teleporting it into place

    Agreed
The vessels would "lock" when the two entities' docking block touch
