Ok … you get your troll-veto and I request something else.
I'll request perma-jamming against sensors unless the troll spends quite some time scouting. It should be "A troll's play-time" vs "A player's play time" at the very least.

EDIT: Stations are what makes the universe fun to explore. If nobody can build stations, there is nothing to explore.

Do you want to blow up someone's gate network or discover where it leads to?
I'd reccomend a simple solution, but it seems like the devs doesn't care.
    Over 50 approval seals, ffs

I like it, but this does not fix the core issue. (( Note: This thread is now 1 year old! ))

Do you want to blow up stations you find or do you want a game which let you discover all new stations without punishing players that built them?

If it is easier to travel with under-sized versions of Klingon Warbirds because the Trade-Guild portals on all protected shops do not let bigger versions through, it's easy to give stations an adequate protection against this threat.

Imagine a TG-policy like: "We only encourage use of our gates by traders and their escorts, not full-sized warships for blowing up stations.".

You wouldn't need chain-drives as much as now if all TG shops had gates.
    |
To effectively create a network, a ring of shops with a 1-way'round or 2-way'round gate-system has to connect to different other rings.
I've explained this in more detail in a separate thread.

It's a little more of a bother, but it is possible to make a station relatively protected from even large threats.

You can't expect just bundle of system floating in space to not be a juicy target.

Hell, use turrets, big turrets, apply more shields, even stick a defense fleet on it!

Gates should be a precious, valuable commodity. They can bridge immense distances across the map.

They should be high priority defensive targets.

They should be as valuable as streets in our modern lifes.
What is really important are highways streets which are not just able to get you to the next city, but which allow travelling quickly through the territory of multiple cities.

Streets don't teleport you to your location.

We don't have an accurate parallel IRL, but the closest one I can think of is airports, and those are high security locations indeed.

Streets TP you compared to walking through forest paths.

One airport has peoples and cars walking across landing ways like walking across a rail-way when the amps are green.
Another airport has a very sloppy road and no control tower at all - the sheriff tells sits in a 4x4m office room and does the job.
Granted, this airport is for very small planes only.
Some hospitals have helicopter pads on the roofs.
and some countries burn trees to make a landing street for drug curriers.

You just have to open your eyes to how much imagination peoples have when no big organisation limits freedom.

    Wut.

I was just saying that warp gates should have to be defended to some degree.
