emmisive

As I understand it, emmisive textures creates parts of the block that emit light in dark enviroments, however my blocks don't glow. Is there a texture that needs to be turned on? If it is an obvious option like emmisive textures on/off than I would have seen it. Im away from my computer Atm so I...
