Do regular docking units allow shared energy like the turret docking unit?

Weapon computers can be rotated to fire in different directions. Broadside cannons for example. If I made a turret's guns fire straight up would the AI recognize this? This way the guns would point directly away from my ship and be less likely to damage myself.
