The RPi 2 is much more powerful than the original so you should be fine - especially since you could even run windows 10 for better compatibility if needed but you may have to overclock a bit for better performance
This seems awesome the main cause of lag on planets seems to be their animated cores and partially their rotation and orbit (not sure if orbit exists; haven't had time to check)

Post a ship you have made: I can design planet-bases and have a few exclusive ships but here is a link to some pictures of one http://imgur.com/a/2oxLK/ screenshots taken with...
what about this(example of a ship scaled down)
.tthhtt
. hh
. thhht
.tthhhtt
where t is thrusters and h is hull/other stuff and where strain of acceleration is dispersed across the structure duo to the forward thrusters
also what about differently placed (directional) thrusters on key points...
you can get a good mining ship with starting materials
if you sell the weapons you can buy around 500 reactors and 300 modules and some thrusters and cores just in case
also has anyone thought about making a push-cannon with collision damage on? to essentially railgun cores out of the weapon?
it could also be used for ship boarding
you may have a few pull beams in the end of the barrel to keep it in the correct position for firing
I just thought about drone racks and how you could possibly use a camera facing the rack logic and then using the core (in flight mode) to activate the logic for launching them
