Specifically Lcontrol to go into advanced build mode

So I almost never play PC games, but this one is awesome, problem is when there's too much going on on the screen, like lets say I go to an abandoned station to salvage, frame rate just drops, how do I fix this? Also hitting Lcontrol sometimes makes my ship become invisible, and I don't know how...
