@Crimson-Artist as this is off topic I will write a shorter review. It is clearly not meant as a trailer for the game, it is more of an advertisement for your skiff, so I will take that into consideration.

    Things you did well.
    1. your camera movements are wonderfully fluid
    2. you showcased the features you wanted extremely well. I mean that this could not be done better. Absolutely perfect
    Things that might be improved.
    1. There seems to be 3 movements in 3 minutes. They don't particularly flow together very well. The first and third movements distract from the main piece. Try and incorporate them into the actual showcase if you can.
    2. You are halfway through the trailer before we know what the point is. This should be accomplished right away.
    Could go either way.
    1. As a personal preference I don't particularly like the added picture effects, the added sound effects are kinda nice as they add auditory feedback for what is going on, but this is merely a preference so you can take it or leave it.

I think your trailer is pretty good, but it needs more explosions. You show 5 seconds of the "large battle" and it's a boring one at that. When you say "dangerous universe" have a goddam titan blow the shiznets out of that miner. Use the Black. And make the large battle have more players and not AI.

(everything I could have said about the trailer in the op has been said already, so: )

@Neon_42 a bit off topic but what do you think about my trailer?
Too many fades during the cinematic parts. I'm not sure why it bothers me, but it does. I think it needs more jump cuts.

The shot of you scrolling outwards in the galaxy map wasn't smooth.

The first shot of the jump drive in effect was hilariously slow. I think you should have gradually sped up the footage.

    thanks for the feedback.

the whole 3 sequences format is sort of the way my videos tend to flow. 1st and 3rd parts act as a sort of story, the 1st acts as a cinematic use of the ship and the 3rd acts as an epilogue bringing closure as well as a way of advertising what else I'm working on/what ship i'll showcase next. This video showed a station being worked on as I'm currently working on a shipyard design for my mushroom fleet home base.

the 2nd part is the actual catalog showcase. basically the first part is suppose to be the hook and this is the meat.

jump cuts unless properly used tend to be too jarring for me. most of the time it makes a video look much less professional looking IMO.

wasn't really sure how to make a smooth scroll without it being too fast/too slow. mouse wheels can be very unreliable when it comes to zooms

build up. taking it slow helps build tension and anticipation. besides getting footage of the jump drive effect can be very tricky since you only glow for about 1 sec before jumping then afterwards you have to consider the sector change which can screw with the lighting and/or background.

all in all thx for the feedback guys

Were those sounds borrowed from Q.U.B.E. that I heard in the trailer?

    nope

all sounds (save for a few) were all taken directly from the starmade game files. the only sounds that aren't from the game is the music as well as certain sound effects like the swooshes of the fighter and the charge up sound. those i made myself with my own voice and some audio editing.

If jump cuts look less professional, why are they used in movies? :p

I think all the fades gave the effect of making me unsure of what I was looking at for a second in-between shots. That's more jarring than a jump cut imo. But I think using fades in-between scenes (rather than every shot) shouldn't be a problem if you like them that much.

However, I liked the fades in the second "act" when you're just showing off the ship from different angles. It gave the scene a kinda artificially slick, non immersive feel. If that makes any sense. (Which I think was good, since it gives off a "commercial effect")

I meant that brief moment when the ship began moving away from the camera before it disappeared, and you used the ripple effect. The tension was when the ship was glowing, ready to warp. Then... it waddled away a few meters before finally going ZIP! It was very anticlimactic imo just because it moved slowly before jumping. Especially since you placed the whooshing sound effect when the ship began moving forward, not when it zipped away.

interesting. i'll see if i can try that in the next video

oh ok, i wasn't sure which part you meant.

its more of a technical limitation with filming the jump effect. i do most of my filming by myself and certain shot require the use of another player. i used a "stuntman" to pilot the ship and was filming it in another ship. from another pilots perspective ships move forward slightly before actually jumping out. the point was to show off the ship jumping away without the camera following it like if i were actually in the core.

That's why I suggested speeding the footage up. So that the ship would just zip away and disappear. But you could do it gradually before the ship moves, so the glowey ripples on the ship's hull appear to get faster before jumping.

no rush,i know no one can do it in one day as i did,so im giving you 2 days.
just a small test to see if guys who bash this video can do better
(this wasnt supposed to be a trailer,Schema kindly asked me to make something small,so he can update INDIE DB site,it was casual ,not a real high-production value trailer)

ok. personally i had no problem with your trailer except that the font looked immature.

othwerwise i really liked it! :D
i even showed it to my friend who is a space engineer fan to bash on him xD because it shows that starmade is so good.

you dont need to challenge people to make a better one just because they think certain things are lesser good - it is annoying but it is just things that could have been better. it was supposed to be something short for schema - say that and there is no reason to worry about the critisism.

did schema mention that things like copyrighted music couldn't be used? if he did then where did you get your music for the trailer?
