Help me! My Launcher isn't working

Hey I need a little guidance.

I just bought a new laptop it's a HP pavilion on windows 8.1 so I downloaded the launcher and a white screen came up. At first I thought it was loading so I left it then it turned black but nothing came up on the screen. Am I doing something wrong or is it my laptop?

p.s I'm not very good with computers just like playing the games so please explain in detail any soloutions it would be much appreciated

Have you got java? If not, then you need to get both the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) and the Java Development Kit (JDK), those are links to where you can download them. Make sure to get the 64 bit if you have a 64 bit PC. I don't know where to find that out on Windows 8.1 since I'm on Windows 10. :p
