Whitney MK1 Orbital Defense Platform
Following the rapid expansion of the humanity, the Terran Space Navy found they could not keep up with the development and defense of all the settled systems, especially after being thrust into conflict with the Calthrian Empire.
To help solve that issue, the TSN contracted out the design and construction of defensive systems to help hold outlying areas. The winner of the bid was the Whitney Defense Corporation, who promised to develop several variations of a defensive orbital platform.
Quickly following through on their promise, the WDC produced a platform with a main goal of functionality and minimal flare. Armed with 12 Heavy Anti-Fighter Turrets, the Whitney MK1 was found capable of defeating even a light corvette. Protected by 4M shields and holding up to 28M power, it is more than capable of holding off raiders and pirates until help can arrive*. Kept small and simple, the MK1 ODP has a hangar with two repair shuttles, and houses up to four crew in a comfortable, if spartan, living space. While the platform itself has no weapons, it is equipped with a fairly powerful scanner.
For mobility, the MK1 ODP has small thrusters and a max speed of 2.3 mps. It also has a jump drive, allowing it to be moved to its needed sector with relative easy. For long movement within a system, the WDC recommends the use of a heavy tug-barge.
Receiving final approval from the TSN, the Whitney Defense Corporation plans to take the blueprints to the private market, making defense available to anyone willing to pay for it.
