I humbly present the Morrigan Starfighter, the first ship to be released by Prophet Industries.
The goal of Prophet is to produce designs that are mostly function before form. Balancing what would be "real world" function with game mechanics to create designs that "work" and find beauty in that way.
The design was figured out when I realized that no light fighter would be able to incur damage against any ship of even moderate size, and any heavy fighter would be outmaneuvered quickly by a light fighter. meaning that a carrier needs at least two fighter types to be effective, that didn't really fly for me, even in a weightless environment.
I remembered that in world war 2 american fighters could never outclass Japanese zeros in maneuverability and that instead they made fast heavily armored attack craft that could scream in, destroy enemy fighters and scream out before taking significant damage.
The fighter boasts near twice top speed, fast high damage smart missiles, and dual heavy ion cannons to remove pesky shields. it can equally take on all enemy fighter craft and (in wings) even capital ships. it also easily fits into the heavy fighter class and is as compact as possible for carrier use. All while keeping with its rugged beauty, the Morrigan lives up to its namesake as a goddess of death and discord.
