    This will output a logic signal when either turret interrupts the motion of its carriage by rotating towards a forcefield. If this occurs twice in relatively short succession, the system will consider an enemy to be present. Time to confirm an enemy presence may vary; current estimates suggest a minimum of 3 seconds. It will remain on until about 5 seconds after it stops detecting an enemy. It is intended to be docked to another ship or station, with the console separated and placed elsewhere, or replaced altogether by a custom-built one.

    The yellow hazard armor outlines areas which must not be blocked; any block within the inner edge of these outlines is likely to impede the function of the sensor.

    The example console it is packaged with shows how its outputs can be interpreted. It will output up to three "alert" signals, depending on status.

    • Yellow Alert: Only relevant if the console is a significant distance (numerous sectors) away from the sensor, or if the sensor's sector is otherwise unlikely to be loaded. This is just a clock passing through both console and sensor, to detect whether or not the sensor is loaded.
    • Orange Alert: Occurs when an error is detected (which is either A: a random malfunction, or B: an enemy detected, which will soon be confirmed, if so). This can also be used as an "enemy confirmed" signal, if you're satisfied with the risk of it being a malfunction (which will sometimes occur, primarily due to the orientation of some rail components resetting randomly), rather than an actual enemy.
    • Red Alert: Enemy detected and confirmed. Time to do something about that.
