I remember being able to delete blocks using ctrl and right click? Can't anymore for some reason :/ Or i might just be crazy about remembering it being possible haha.

What OS are you using? I have the suspicion that it may depent on the platform.

hmm. very strange. I'm on win 7 too, and it works for me. Have you tried mapping the fixed cam build mode to another key?
