What exactly is meant by FTL support in-game?

Faster than light travel. Warp drives and jump gates have been added.

How far can they jump?

Jump drives jump up to 8 sectors, warp gates up to 8 systems. Both are configurable.

Love the warp drives. They provide a simple way of planet jumping. Plus they don't put you in planets, so that's cool.

They will however put you in stars. So be careful!
