I think some aspects of this have been shown in the forum before, but I didn't find anything relevant in the new bug tracker when searching for "turret".
Some oddities occur when docking some turrets to the underside of my ship. It only works when I approach the docking module by flying the turret from the front of the ship toward the back, in right-side-up orientation relative to the ship. Upon docking the turret flips upside-down and faces backward relative to the ship (I'm OK with that).
In my first attempt I approached from the same direction, but manually rotated the turret upside-down before docking. It docked, but flipped itself to ship orientation such that it docked in collision with the ship, "mostly" inside the ship. Basically it acted like the socking module was facing up, though the green docking box correctly showed below the ship.
Attempts to approach from the opposite direction (from rear of the ship toward the front) resulted in a message that the target is not compatible, regardless of vertical orientation.
Exiting the docked upside-down turret is also a bit strange. The game puts me upside-down relative to the turret, which I can correct by hitting space. This seems to leave me halfway into the floor, unable to move up or down or use the up-arrow key. Fortunately I can move forward/backward to reach the door and exit. After moving a few blocks away the game says "gravity neutralized" and flips me to be oriented with the ship (gravity was not active).
The ship is docked to a station. All of this is in single-player sandbox mode with the current stable/release version.
