    Hi there,

I have set out on a mission to create the ultimate fighter.

my idea is to create a fighter that can out gun fighters of = mass and on top of that fight off larger ships as well.

I got the idea to create a powerful gun with thrusters, then with docking modules I would dock ships onto it like ''amour plates''. each plate has their own power and shields that would encase the main body protecting it.

    here is my first prototype

    http://imgur.com/a/ksCDw (album)

it has a mass of 276 with a thrust of 466.

she's a bit too big to be a fighter id say, on the second prototype ill start to scale the size down.

it has 10 plates each with on ave 10k shield and 200/s regen, the main ships has 23k shield and 1330/s

    armaments- x8 AMC damage 25%=145 distance 25%=311 reload 25%=311 speed25%=295

    here is my second prototype.

    http://imgur.com/a/UGg5a (album)

on this prototype I manage to get rid of the gaps in the plates and scale down the size.

its mass is 126, less than half the first prototype.

its shields are at 10k, a lot lower than the first prototype but the plates are just as strong.

    armaments- x2 AMC damage 35%=278 distance 15%=575 reload 30%=173.6 speed 20%=35.9

she's way more nimble then the first prototype but still a bit big to be a fighter.

here is my 3rd and final prototype so far.

    http://imgur.com/a/jQopD

I manage to get its mass down to 60.6 with a thrust of 94.1.

the shields are 9k with 196/s regen, even though its half the mass of the 2nd prototype, i manage to have close to the same amount of shield.

it only has 6 armoured plates , each having on ave 8k shield and 190/s regen.

    armaments- a single AMC damage 37%=307 distance 15%=599 reload 33%=151.6 speed 15%=34.9

I'm going to start building the final ship but this is as refined as I think I'll be able to get it.

here is a pic compeering the size of the ships together.

    http://imgur.com/a/EbZ1H

    the advantages of this design.

    1) amour plates do not add to the mass of the ship (as far as I can see)

2 ) because you can rely on the armour plates for tank you can pack large AMC into your small fighter and worry less about shielding it.

    3) this fighter will out tank any other of the same mass and will be nimble enough to dodge larg capital ships main guns.

    4) because the plates are separate they can regen well the others take damage and they also suffer less for the shield staking penalties.

    thank you for reading. :)

Hi guys here is the finished fighter!

    http://imgur.com/a/A87DS

I have named this style off ship with amour plates Void-class(props to Spiritofpower for the name).

as for this final fighter I have called her Ironclad(thanks to Dark_inguisitor)

    I'll get right to it.

    stats-

    mass 66.8

    thrust 177.7

    shields 23678 (1108 s/sec) recovery 0.5

amore plates on ave each have 9-10 k shield with 286 s/sec.

    she has 2 AMC- Damage 35%=236 Distance 15%=536 Reload 35%=190 Speed 15%30.4

It also has a cockpit with another one directly behind it in case it gets destroyed.

here is the downloads for all the ships.

    http://star-made.org/node/8832 (Prototype1)

    http://star-made.org/node/8833 (Prototype2)

http://star-made.org/node/8834 (Prototype3) something happened with the save file so for some reason she's missing the bottom plates... sorry :(

    http://star-made.org/node/8835 (Ironclad) :)

please guys go out and test these little buggers and let me know how they handle in real combat.

I'd like a little feed back if possible . so go out there and make them big capital ship builders cry at the power of you little fighter! :)

    thanks for reading :)

Nice! I\'d had an idea similar to this floating around for a while, but never really got around to prototyping. One of the main advantages to this type of armor plating is that it\'s disposable and easy to repair; if one of the plates gets damaged too much just visit the nearest shop and swap it out, and of course there\'s the weight and shield advantages as well. Though once docking gets overhauled in the future, your main craft might have to carry the weight, which will limit the effectiveness of this technique. Still, nice job. Could we get a download link for all the prototypes? I like the look of the first one and I\'d like to try refitting it to buff up the AMC\'s and maybe make a decent frigate.

    -Single sd kb missle system

    -Plenty sheilds/armor

    -Centralized Core

The first name that comes to mind is \'Snapping Turtle-class\'. Other names that occur to me are \'Lightning Void-class\' or possibly just \'Void-class\'. Actually I rather like Void-class, consider that my official suggestion. Unless you were asking for the name of this specific ship, in which case either Lightning Void or Void would work as the first ship in the Void-class line.

Referring to the overall info and design of the fighter itself, i would call it \"Ironclad\"
But, this is only a small suggestion from my side. I like to keep ship names simple and catchy.
    Very nice work, btw.

well I guess for this type of building style, void class has a nice ring to it yes so ill refer to it as that :). as for the final fighter ill use ironclad. I like that name, it also has a nice ring to it.

I\'ve started construction of it now and it\'s looking good. just building the armour plates are a hassle. trying to make it as astatically pleasing as possible since it\'s the final product :)

    thanks again guys

been a bit busy with some stuff and have not had time for Starmade. ill have the downloads up for all the ships by tomorrow :)

was doing some tests by spawning 5 of the finished fighter as pirates, and even with my larger ships these feel a bit OP to fight.

I won’t say they are the best fighters that can be crated, but i would say they defiantly a move in the right direction.

balancing fire power, tank and mass this ship pushes it to the limit of what a heavy fighter can do.

anyway the upload should be here by tomorrow.

I hope they serve you guys well, or help you to make your own with this concept.

as always thanks for reading :)

Maybe much blocks to be used as fighter but its small and
    thrust = almost 3x mass
Its pretty nice inside and chest are really secure (3 hardened and 4 plex glass)
    120K shield
More than 30 antimatter cannons that does all more than 100 damage
    Same for heat seeking missiles

I have ever took down a ship that was 130 meters with it (no ai, real guy)
And a ship that was even bigger

am i the only one who the instance they saw this thought it would perhaps perform better when rolled out too things large ships. there could be a turret positioned under some of the panels technobeaming them, then when another cruiser wears the pnels down too much, there jetisoned as a breif shield while the turret starts firing lock on missiles. or since there powerd seperatley a drain, supply beam sytem could mean the power could be taken from wrecked panels and suplied to ones under heavy fire.

utimate fighter! I think I made it

I took down big ships with it today (150 meters) with that ship only 350 mass but very powerful:
