If I could add anything to StarMade, I would add the threat of a supernova. Say 1 out of every 1000 worlds generated has the chance of generating a star that could "blow" at anytime when you are playing. Blast diameter is 14 sectors. Does between 1500 to 100000 damage depending on shields and distance from the blast and can leave a nebula of gas that can have any effect the creators want to give it.

bbbrrrr, I definately wouldn\'t like my entire race to be removed from existance like that.

Depending on how it would work (setting sun damage to like 1million for example)only uncovered ships would be blown up stations and players wouldnt be affected at all (unless the player would sit in the ships...)

Also 30 sectors is a bit stupid since a sun system only has an 5 sector diameter (has to be smth around that)And some fixes would have to be made (like making the sun a bit more than a cheap effect)

but It would be funny to see how all those lone wolf get roasted if they are not sheltering at that time.

I\'d have it work that if a ship crashes into a sun, it triggers it, causing both positive and negative reasons to hang aroud one.

    Positive:

    self destruct mechanism is cool

    FUN

    negative:

    self destruct mechanism can destruct

that FUN is a dwarf fortress sort of FUN

Not a bad idea but that required a lot of power for server/client

This is a procedural action, start on event/timer action, that\'s not the problem, the problem is when the supernovae start.

30 sector arround ? this is really too heavy in some server player don\'t move as far as 15/20 sector from the spawn, you know the needed time for travel 20 sector ? also the charge cpu for generate all sector ?

So without generating sector, just passing the sector generated all player/base/ship ... all of all is touch and get damage by that ...

    What ?

shadyre, I didn\'t see a server where players stick that much to spawn...

and major servers have players visiting sectors like 300 300 300, with 20-50 players online at once, 27 sectors ( 3 radius) loaded for each player, that\'s a lot more than a supernova :P

Each star has a random \'Detonation\' value somewhere between 1 and 100 million. If the star takes this amount of damage from weapons fire or impacts within a set time limit (maybe 10 seconds) then it will go supernova.

When a star goes supernova there will be a short period of warning before it explodes (maybe the star turns red for a few seconds or something) once it explodes all ships in the system take a variable amount of damage based on their proximity to the star. Aditionally the higher the stars detonation value the more damage it will cause to any ships in the system.

Planets close to the star would be completely destroyed while planets further away would be either partly destroyed or undamaged depending on distance and the detonation value of the star. These surviving planets (if there are any) would continue in a straight line for some distance (maybe a few sectors) before coasting to a stop.

These features would add an interesting tactical element to large fleet battles or faction wars here are some examples:
1- A Deus or multiple Titans could purposely detonate a star in order to destroy an enemy fleet or faction base.
2- A star could be detonated in order to send a planet hurtling towards an enemy base or fleet as a projectile. Alternatively a base or giant gun could be built on the planets surface in order to turn it into a temporary massive ship.

Finally the existence of starless planets would make exploration a little more intersting.

    what do you guys think?

I feel like Starmade needs more events, more dynamics to it... As it is, space is a rather dull place, and the only thing which happens every now\'n then, is an opponent appearing.

Impacts aren\'t particularly dangerous to a ship, even though they probably should be.. It\'d allow for asteroid fields to be somewhat risky.. Also having much more small objects (1-5 blocks in dense clusters) sitting around in certain sectors\'d make them hazardous, and make us device routes around it, or create a path through. An attack by anyone in such an environment would turn out way different than in open space.

Interaction with Trading Ships, beyond fighting or defending them would be nice. Alien factions, and the actual presence of space-settlements to invade and slaughter, or protect.

A more worked out AI, so one could set ships controlled by it, to either patrol a certain sector, or escort a ship.

And finally, to return to the subject.. Supernovae, wormholes, dust-clouds, energy storms and other such fun things which can have varying effects on our ships. Certain planets could have certain pro\'s or contra\'s when being near them. Certain environments boosting or diminishing the effectiveness of a ship\'s systems.

Space ain\'t meant to be a walk in the park.

how about a not a supernova but a solor flare les destuctive and you dont loose your home planits

    the idea

a blast that is 1 sector thick lanched tru space

takes 15 secends to past over a still ship or space staton

it will take 250 damage per secend

when/if shelds go 3 blocks per secend per each set of 100 mass

same goes for statons and turents are scaled independtly

pulsaters need another use so im saying thay can block such a flair for 5 secends for the parts shown to have the pulse go out making pulsaters along the inside of hull usefull
