Urchin class GCU (general contact unit)

A new universe requires new ships. This is one of the new 3rd generation ships. It is used primarily as a pirate hunter and interceptor. A solid power supply, good compact weapons and an overdrive feature allow for long range patrol as well as light escort duties. Please don't think we're ignoring the privateer market. The Urchin comfortably sleeps 2 and will easily transport 3. Med station and a micro salvager + cargo handler come as standard. While rumors of pilots stripping out weapon packages and replacing them with lighter storage systems cannot be substantiated, it's good to know the even in the world of contraband smuggling, SSE comes out on top.

    Piranha class general combat module.
Not very graceful looking but gets the job done. These units can be operated autonomously and make up the bulk of the offensive drone fleet.

Glad someone made the effort. Ideas like his permeated sci-fi at the time. Ideas like that were carried on by people like Fred Saberhagen and others in his Berseker series as well as guys like David Zindell in the Neverness series. Those are where a lot of my sci-fi influences come from.
