This is not a call out for a better economy or a huge complex with hangars and rooms, just an update to the existing design.

Shops are probably the oldest structure in starmade (wouldn't know, not been here long enough), and you can tell by looking at them. They are oddly shaped, unsymmetrical and outdated. It wouldn't surprise me if they predated wedges.

This needs to change. They are the first thing that a new player will see, and do not do a good enough job of showing off the games design features. I am not saying we need some planet sized mega structure with fully operational logic, but wedges would be nice.

This is my biggest issue with shops.

The circle thing-ys are not circle. it drives me nuts. it was the first thing I noticed when I played, and still annoys me whenever I use a shop.

next thing, the little room on NPC stations

Nothing in this room is symmetrical or uniform other than the grey on the floor. This is the first thing I spotted when I saw the new shops.

I made it my mission tonight to fix this.

Here is my new shop, next to a current one. (mine is on the right)

Not much difference is there? the key is in the details.

I have extended the size of the central rod thing by 3 blocks. Not sure why I did this, but I like it.

The circles around the edge are fixed, and wedged to make them less blocky.

The central room is the biggest change.

Everything is centred, and looking proper. there is still the grey pattern on the floor to help break it up abit, and 4 plex-undeathinators just incase you need one. There is a rammet crystal core in the centre of the room to help signify that this is a shop, even if you don't have the indicators turned on.

I have added these beacons to the top and bottom, also made out of ramet crystal, just to break up the flat top, and be a sort of shop navigational beacon for easy spotting.

This would be a minor change to the game, and make things SO much nicer. shops are really ugly, and can be made to look so much better. I have a basic version of the shop if the Devs would like to use these particular ones.

Didn't notice before (except for for something I'm about to mention), but now I agree almost fully. A slight thing you could change on the design: make the tops curve at least a bit. It's always driven up the wall how they suddenly end. Boom. Done. Not even a nice cap. You can keep the beacons, just a curve at the top. Also, the type of crystal should be randomized, although I see your you're coming from with the pink.

Other than those two things, it's perfect. Have an agree.

I gotta say, this has been annoying me for awhile aswell, and i really like your updated shop :) looks great.
I only have two thoughts to offer on this, as small circles dont really work in terms of looking circular, i'd consider making the rings hexagons to fit the shape of the main body of the shop, because i think that looks a little odd now that the main rod is deffinatly a hexagon shape. Maybe just try that and see how it looks?
And my other point is the same as whiterhino's, while the beacon on the end does look good, it still doesn't look quite right as a flat end. The beacon looks too much like a tacked on afterthought, get some wedges and pentas on there and it'd look great.

Totally agree. It may also look nice to make the grey pattern on the floor either raised or indented so that it can be rounded off with wedges and pentas. I also agree with the two suggestions above. But other wise fantastic work!

I agree with the above three comments on the ends of the shop and the rings. Other than that, this shop is very nice looking.

While we're on the subject, perhaps the devs could start a week long competition to redo the current randomly generated structures? Pirate stations are derpy, cities are...blargh... and the regular stations are kind of plain and the sections don't connect.

Giving a block type, lwh limit and block limit, and just letting people take a shot at making a better version would take virtually no effort on the part of the devs (basically drag, drop, change a line or two of code, and make a forum post.) and it would vastly improve gameplay and show off the possibilities of the game.

yeap, and i mean, its not hard at all to do something about it.
and as someone up there said, give us the list of what can we do (us players)
    list of:
    -how many blocks are allowed
-type of blocks allowed (and number of specific blocks allowed)
    -width,lenght,height size limits

and we players can explode with that list,we can do amazing things.
and just like we have now, what..10 default pirate ships..
we can have number of stations designed by us,so when the universe is generating,it would randomly
place station from the list of stations available, and we can have 10 or 20 on the list :)
    ..
the universe in starmade would look amazing, without any effort from the devs..
they just need to give us the list of what can we do like i said, and just write 2-3 line sof code
    boom,immersion +10000000

it would mean a lot to us players..a whole world,as currently shops and stations are just there to fill in the space :/

This is a good idea and I see no reason not to implement it. Schema should just ask you for a copy of that shop you built and use it. Problem solved.

    tenk11kamikaza-

I'm thinking we should get the devs to look at this post sooner or later...
