So, I remember eve online has a ship size system that was easy to follow ( drone-fighter-frigates-destroyer-cruiser... Then other space games have had other systems.

I'd like to know what is starmades sytem. I know the player is 2 blocks high and I'm 6 ft, so one block would be 3 ft squared, or 1meatet.

So what is the system of ship size instarmade

Usually people do their own classification systems, this is especially true for factions and sometimes for servers who keep track of all existing ships in their universe - StarMade has no official size system.

A good way to get started is to look at the Community Content and see how people classify their ships as well as the dimensions and block count of the ships.

Example: As far as I can tell, a destroyer is common to have a block count in the same order of magnitude as a 100000mass ship. A ship is rarely referred to as "dreadnought" if it doesn't crash the server on it's own :)p)

Note that if you are new and just started building ships, the size of those may be surprisingly large at first - most likely your first builds will be fighters and corvettes, even if you start them off with a frigate in mind :)

There was a player (can't remember his name off-hand) who was making a complex document on how to describe different vessels, but since Starmade ships are so customized and customizable, and efficiency skill is so variable among players, any ship size classification system is almost meaningless. The complex document was going to describe vessels by capability, instead of block count or size dimensions. It will be more useful for you to describe your ship's size, weaponry, and other capabilities. If you try to describe it as a "frigate" or "destroyer", that's going to mean 5 different things among 10 different Starmade players. The capabilities are what players really want to know about, from the weapon systems to how fast it turns.

The best bet for a "universal system" (stil impossible to create) would kind of be to combine these. Entirely without rough size example data points, you'll otherwise end up with two ships that are destroyers, even though one of them could easily fit into the other's hangar :D

Basically you should consider EVEs ship system to be a step up too large for the average player. Their ships are huge. Most players consider a 600-800 meter long ship a battleship/capital. Most players create ships around cruiser size I would say. But I think that people make their fighters very large compared to their other ship considering they tone it down on the size of other ship types.

There are also practical reasons like multiplayer usability (lag).
That indeed roughly makes 600m a battleship, 800m+ a capital and kilometer long and above a super capital. Differentiating above 1km in size won't have too many applications on servers (and if needed one day, then there are still death stars :D )

I'd say this only holds true because of the credit limit and lag. Once those are sorted out I wouldn't be surprised to see major factions fielding capital ships measured in kilometers. I personally don't consider something capital worthy until it's at least a kilometer long and/or costs upwards of a billion credits.
