    This is a compilation of all the good ideas I've heard for planets. Some are possible to implement and some are not. If I missed some, let me know.

    Wish list:
    • More planet types / randomly generated types
    • Improved terrain generation (such as a biome system)
    • Bigger planets (better optimized)
    • Nicer edges / seamless map
    • Better atmosphere

    Bench , a "Planned" tag was hastily attached to this thread and the OP has since been edited with other people's wish list entries. Are all of these features planned?

      As a dev team we've discussed how to make planets more dynamic.
    • Improved terrain generation (such as a biome system)

      We're keen to do biomes but also depends on the size of planets to how many we can have or how elaborate we can go.
    • Bigger planets (better optimized)

      We'd like this
    • Nicer edges / seamless map

      We're talking about different ways to solve this, to make them less noticeable or seamless, though true seamless might not be that easy
    • Better atmosphere

      Not something we've discussed but that will come with the other planet stuff when we visit planets
    • Improved/fixed/non-derpy gravity

      Something we want to look at at some point but haven't confirmed what the solution will look like.
    • Deeper plates to dig into

      Once optimizations are done this should be a lot more possible
    • Fluids (water, lava, etc.)

      We'd like to have actual fluid movement like water, lava. Obviously the biggest tackle for us is gravity, as down is not always down if you catch my drift.
    • Better mining/resources

      We have plans for improving resource gathering etc as it applies to planets.
    • Flora and Fauna

      Both of these have been confirmed to be planned in the past.
    • Civilizations / NPC bases

      Also confirmed to be planned dependent on optimizations.
    • Moons

      Confirmed planned in previous blog/Q&A
    • Rings

      Confirmed planned in previous blog/Q&A
    • Graphical tricks to make planets look spherical from orbit

      As this adds a lot to immersion, I'm keen to see us figure out something here.

    Could making wedge blocks be a defining fix to the sides it might not look as ugly

    We would need more than wedges to fix the odd angles on planet edges. We would some very strange shapes that I don't know the names of.

    Well, that puts a nail in the coffin of planets discussions.

    My money is on Torus Worlds (as Valiant explained to me), I'm sure it can be worked out to everyone's satisfaction. I wonder how mineral deposits will be handled.. then again perhaps something like an extractor and different planet types having different ratios of the various materials.

    Update. This is not necessarily the progress of the new planets, simply how we want things to go (not necessarily will go). Some of this stuff is more universe update (Gas giants, moons, rings etc). New planets are still what I would consider "early" in development.

    Aiming for it. We're currently fleshing out a mechanic that could be considered a resource, which would be heavily planet dependent. Very early stages, could be scrapped entirely.
