I've known about this for roughly a year now, and I still cant figure out what variables are causing it.
Ship B docks to Ship A ("mothership") via pickup point.
Ship A fly's into another sector. Ship B vanishes at the boarder (and is left behind in the previous sector - in a "ghosted" state).
If: Ship A returns to the starting sector, Ship B reappears docked as if nothing happened.
Additional side effect; Ship B cannot be un-docked by any means (docking beam/ button to the rail basic that Ship B is docked to/ Destroying either or both rail docker and rail basic between both ships)

I can't seem to get it to work on simple core's, so I'm left guessing there's something to do with the sheer mass of the ships (block count). I've tried in the past to save a friends ship as it drifted into a pirate station after he DC'd, using a rail-extending pole with a pickup point on the end attached to my ship... it worked one of the 2 times I did it but ghosted the ship all the same.
