How do I separate my builds?

I started building a space station but I used my ship as a starting point. Now both objects move with each other. How do I separate them so one is a station and the other is a ship?

This isn't really possible in-game. There might be a way via a 3rd party program, but I haven't heard of one myself.

Edit: Oops, forgot; You can use the Copy tool in advanced edit mode (LCtrl while in build-mode) to save the blocks to the clipboard, then paste them onto a station. =) (You might need to change a config setting so that you can select the whole thing!)

Hey thanks for your help! I did end up doing exactly that. I'm new at this game so the construction options are still baffling.
