Downloading ships?

This has been asked a thousand times before I am sure, but how do you download and load ships into the game? I just updated to the latest patch and went to install a ship, and realize I have no clue what I am doing. I think this topic needs a sticky to help other new comers.
EDIT - If someone could either post a good link or list the process, that would be much appreciated.

There's two methods depending on download.

If you have an SMENT file, open "Ship Catalog Manager" under "Tools" in the game's start menu (the second screen with all the settings). In the manager, Import from wherever that file is on your drive. The Export option will create an SMENT file for you to put on the community content section, if you're also wondering about that.
Some downloads here are just blueprint folders, so you can drop them into the blueprints folder of your starmade install.
