the range of the sensors depend on what kind of sector you are in.
neutral sector: normal range
Enemy sector: decreased range
Friendly sector: improved range
Could be you were in a neutral or enemy sector?
as they mentioned somewhere above, scanners only work on ships with players in.

Little update on what I plan to do the coming week
Finish those stupidly hard to get right mass fighters for that contest.
Try to work some more on the City-Gate project,
probably going to work on the gate itself and/or try to finish the shell

well if you take a look at the typical shotgun you see that they are incredible overpowered at short distances and they are the worst weapon to have been created when you are fighting anyone with a medium to long range weapon.
But right now with how the output of the shotgun is you need to be...

More spray patterns for the shotgun weapons are needed, needs to be at least a bit random where they hit.
But other than that then I agree that the accuracy of the shotgun weapons should be increased however I do not know if it will be a good or bad thing...

well it would make stealth ships more viable and give a bigger need for scanners but as some other suggested, jammer and cloak should have a cooldown after being taked down by a scanner array.
nah only jammers. Jammers should keep turrets from killing me, or at least keep them from locking on. and the TM turrets did lock onto me even after I re-jammed.
I believe you accidental hit one of the wrong f-buttons while holding tab.
I cannot remember which one you need to press so try them all but be careful not to break the blocking view any more than you already have :P
