Personal preference, paranoia, general sense of privacy, any of a thousand reasons a person might have?
Does having the option somehow bother you and if so why?
I so want to prove you wrong on this one :D
The vertical launch tubes I've got planned for my titan could propably be made like this. Think ICBM launch silo, but with a drone rack ;)
The construction has been on hold since Beyond Earth came out as I've spent almost all of my free time on that...
@Thalanor And you managed to make it look awesome with those stats. Nice to see people setting the bar high :D
Can't wait to see what everyone manages to come up with as the R&D continues.
True, I'm just using you to run the numbers so I don't have to :D (Kidding, I'm just woefully out of touch with the nuts and bolts.)
Haven't gotten around to building the drone bays on my ship yet and I'm planning on doing my actual drone development at the same time to get the sizes right...
Good point about the shipsize; last I calculated ion power drain it was in the billions :D
You could propably use some simple area trigger setup to start the ion on the drone. Ofcourse in such a small entity you need to weigh the value of every block used for logic against maybe just pure...
Far as I know the AI is unable to use the defensive effects and another thing "not to love" about ion is the power drain.
Other than that, yeah it'll be a hell of a test. I expect having to do something similar once I start working on my drones :p
Looks really useful for ship design / theorycrafting. Especially once you get the effects in. :)
On an unrelated note, remove the "?dl=0" part from the end of your image links to make them work. Also the blue colour makes the text mix with the background making it hard to read.
Keep up the...
You can make a blinking Miller Beer sign with logic if you want...
Ofcourse it'll propably be big enough that it makes more sense to mount the bar on the sign rather than the sign in the bar. :D
Also, SITTING! YEAH!
You are ofcourse correct in pointing out these issues and in most cases a heatseeker array is propably far more effective. To get proper coverage a shotgun array like this would propably require several hundred individual cannons. The main advantage is that it allows your ship to have turrets...
I've been playing with the idea of an omnidirectional shotgun cannon array as an anti drone weapon. Basic idea is to have shotgun cannons all over the ship facing different directions and linked to a logic clock. Turning it on would create a flak cloud around the ship.
Ofcourse to get any kind...
If the raiders are already in individual docks, it would be fairly easy to install relatively low power push beams behind the docking units to push them out once undocked. This would atleast make sure they won't collide with the basestar and if you use multiple computers and some delays you can...
I needed the planet to scale the salvager appropriately :p
I think it's the 25121 seperate salvage cannons that cause the issue.
Edit: Everything works fine as long as I don't go to the structure panel :D
If I manage to finish the ship I'm currently building in time, I'll enter as well. Altough I'm fairly certain I won't be winning in the design department, but maybe I can atleast use brute force to get some respectable results in the other categories.
Ship currently only has the central hull...
It would seem prudent for a drone carrier to launch atleast most of their racks as soon as being engaged in combat, mostly because of such a threat.
I'm not sure if racks in closed hangars will be protected from damage that doesn't penetrate the motherships shields, but it would make sense for...
This thread has given me a plethora of ideas for rack deployed weaponry. I'll post some pics and things once I get around to arming the ship I'm working on.
In regards to the original question: Seems like a drone carrier might be the most viable role for a big ship at the moment.
I think general scorn at their ugliness and people who fly them can be applied to this effect. Well designed and good looking bringers of galactic death should be welcome. :)
I think large ships should be viable and hopefully with the development of the game economy we will see them being more...
