Gamer logic:
Only white skins? Your racist for only having white default skins.
Only black skins? Your racist for making the main character black.
Has options for both? Your racist for putting those in and clearly just trying to reach a quota.
I can just picture a pair of cargo ships speeding towards a shipyard to get the best price... blasting at each other the whole way to eliminate the competition.
Can we turn this into a ship armor R&D thread similar to the drone thread?
I had a similar idea which involved giving each plate its own shield drain beam to steal shield strength from the enemy ship.
The changing methods is mostly due to quickly loosing interest in a project, I do just fine when I actually decide to finish a ship (except when it turns invisible for being 'too big')
With the amount of resources were gonna need it might be a good idea to have planets regenerate terrain (assuming they are not destroyed). It would add value to owning a system and real consequences for the actual destruction of a planet.
More thoughts from the janitor:
So we know that being shot completely resets jump-drive charge right? Does it still get reset if a docked entity is shot like a turret? because if it doesn't then docked armor plates suddenly become incredibly useful.
So we can't have an expanding sphere of salvageness? I thought that was possible by using salvage beams as the slave, but I haven't really looked into it.
So in previous versions a ship core rendered the sector it was in as well as all adjoining sectors. Because of this any ship more than 2 km/sectors long would fail to render or experience other bugs. After numerous updates and the ability to resize sectors to 10km across I had thought this...
I've seen a lot of posts suggesting things like manually modulating shields to withstand certain damage types while being weak to others. Sounds like something a player crew-member could do. change damage type to frequency and do the same for weapons and it might be interesting.
This was actually one of Notch's concepts for nether portals in Minecraft at one point. It was abandoned for the same reasons its probably going to be abandoned here. If it does get added it should only exist on completely vanilla servers for obvious reasons.
