      Missile Setups

Lock on sniper missiles launched from AI turrets would be what I would suggest. Make them large turrets with plenty of shielding, one or more to each facing of your ship and bury them as much as possible inside your hull leaving just the firing face exposed. You may have to angle your ship a...

      Missile Setups

Yes, they will. If you wish to stay friendly with your faction, avoid firing heatseekers anywhere near to them. And by near, I mean anything in the same or adjacent sector. Be 'far' away from anything you don't want taking hits if you use heatseekers. They are great in the appropriate situation...

      Missile Setups

Yes, I am quite familiar with Sven's videos. This is a beautifully illustrative example of exactly what I said, that the AI has an atrocious hit probability at anything other than very close ranges, especially at the easier settings.

      Expanding Missile Gameplay

Thus far, virtually every ship I have built has relied almost exclusively on missile systems for it's offensive armament. My go to ship right now has a really nice, powerful and effective coring gun system and I have used it all of once on a pirate just to see it in action (pirates on my server...

      Missile Setups

What Sven said. Never use heatseekers unless you know there are no friendlies around. Heatseekers (missile/missile) are just as happy to target trade ships and your allies as they are to target pirates, and you have zero control over what they target. That said, most of my ships use heatseekers...

What is the ideal shield capacitor/shield recharger ratio?

The best way for you to have that question answered is for you to look through the Community Content link on this site. What you mean by fighters and small ships could be very different than what I might construe that to mean. For instance, I fly a permacloak ship with no shields until I can...

What is the ideal shield capacitor/shield recharger ratio?

I tend to go for a one to one ratio myself most of the time if going in blind, leaning somewhat in favor of recharge. To some degree though it depends on what you do most with your ship, what the threat is in your game. If you are concerned about PvP attack, you probably want enough shield...

      Star Trek Phasers

Build the weapon inside the hull of your ship, not as a turret, but as a weapon that is part of your ship. The weapon will be able to fire at anything it can 'see' (like if you put a camera right over the firing aperture). You will have to fire the weapon manually as opposed to having an AI fire...

AI for turrets and ships not working

I have found that turrets and AI ships will not fire on a pirate station, just on the station's turrets. If the target you are waiting for it to engage is a pirate station without turrets, this may be the source of your problem. Of course I could be completely wrong, being dreadfully newbish still.

What do I do with scrap?

I do not know why there is a money cap. With regard to eating stations for scrap, if you are playing singleplayer on your own system, by all means, play as you like. But do not eat up the stations on multiplayer servers, as many players appreciate having such stations around, both to look at...

      StarSide Blood and Steel Tournament

@Sven, people are talking about you in chat. I do hope we'll be able to get a video about the ship you built for the tournament, after the tournament is done of course. :)

What do I do with scrap?

Put it in a Micro Assembler and it will get turned into Alloyed Metal Mesh and Crystal Circuit. Generally though, harvesting scrap is a bit of a waste of time. You are better off mining asteroids so as to get both more and more variety.

Recognized Make ship's weapons not go through the ship

If you want to discourage doom cubes (or more properly have mechanics that stop 'en'couraging them), eliminate the XYZ factor in determining turn rate and base it solely on mass. That and reduce the mass of decorative blocks and basic hull to zero or near zero. Make such blocks not despawn...

One large beam, rather than individual beams

Of course that would mean waiting till the salvagers recycled after the beam ends. One could have two sets of salvagers and switch between them while the other recycles. Better still, if one married the 20 salvagers to 20 cannon slaves, one could gain the same effect without having to wait...

      Variable Missile Geometry

I enjoy having other aspects to ship optimization that create for more design strategy than simply adding more blocks. One thing I would like that would be fairly simply for people to grasp, relatively easy to implement and quite logical and thematic would be to offer extra customization to...

      Seeking Information: Anti-missile turrets

Well, that is somewhat disappointing. Oh well... At least I now have 'very' wide spread converging fire. So even if the AI misses, there will still be an awful lot of cannon fire being put in the general path of missiles. Maybe a missile will get hit by itself flying 'into' that thick shot, as...

      Seeking Information: Anti-missile turrets

Yes, but is it one roll to hit with all three hitting or missing depending upon the single dice roll, or it is three separate chances to hit? That makes a HUGE difference when we are talking about point defense.

      Seeking Information: Anti-missile turrets

Hmm... It occurs to me to wonder, if the AI will fire all groups at once, is it doing only a single targeting role for all groups, or would having nine point defense cannon/computer sets in a point defense turret give that turret nine chances to hit? I am right now rebuilding the turret to have...
