Possible fixes are reinstall Intel stock Drivers and uninstall the HP, also, graphics card and/or laptop? Be sure to check all settings (do not change any unless you know what they do)

from experience, I get the most efficiency from long strips or L/T shaped single lines, but, for a large ship it doesn't matter much atm. and the guy above is right, you get ALOT of thrust of you make a nice shape going in all directions with 1 line each

Nice, strategicly planning a battle is better than running in guns blazing, a smaller, but still tons of firepower ship (possibly a perma-cloack ship) Hitting them from the rear while they are all focused to the front can easily change how a battle goes.
