I don't think it would help with performance as much, it would reduce the volume of changes made to the chunks of the planets, but it'd introduce having to check if there's the specific mineral capable of being salvaged by the salvage beam. It's an interesting idea, but IMHO other things would...
I believe they do already recieve high pulses from being docked, not 100% sure though. Being able to undock from the daughter ship would be nice though.

Divide et impera. You have to have the power capacity to make your missile worth anything, you have to have the regen to make your cannon worth anything. You have to have your shield capacity worth what your power capacity lacks and your shield regen worth what your power capacity lacks; a glass...
In addition to this, think of all the factors from just five basic systems interacting with everything else.
