This is a very neat idea. As others have said, the possibilities are immense. I think this could be easy to implement as well. KSP has essentially the same thing except you have to manually get into orbit and align yourself. Its definitely do-able.

I'll have to disagree with you Sven. Although 50% of a titan is a massive amount of blocks, it seems like a reasonable threshold. In a titan, I'm supposed to feel resilient, tough, even invincible. I think that a smaller percentage, say 30% is cheating the pilot and crew. I still have 70%...

A few concerns: People will build weapons in the center of their ships because it will be much easier to aim. Limits creativity in a way. Bigger ships will have to rely on turrets for precise aiming. Small vs small might take a while if not forever.

I don't think it will prevent core drilling because shooting straight for the core will always be faster.

In ships, the pilot can transfer inventory between storage within the ship. What if the current transfer method was just extended to stations when you docked?
