The fix for broken copy/paste: add a base point!

Copy/paste is extremely useful to have, but the current controls are horrible. It's slow, counter-intuitive, difficult select what you want to copy, and even more difficult to paste it where you want. We (well, not us, the devs) can learn from existing engineering tools that, while not perfect...

      Forge Welding

I made a virtually identical suggestion a week or two ago: Producing ship "components" in factories (anti-modular idea) (Build a special "ship" around a component core, that can be docked to an existing ship, which completely merges the two and destroys the component core/dock) People pointed...

      binvox to sm3 blueprint (Released)

Do you export the smd3 file only terra, or a full sment?

Working on a Charon Class frigate.

Maybe my problem is the version I'm using - SMEdit and current SM are mutually incompatible :(

      Multiple Invincible Stations

Yes, sounds like it suits players online a lot, but wouldn't suit casual players. Factions would drop them from their rosters. The game would tend to exclude the less hardcore rather than include. I'd have thought the need for resources would encourage expansion using the vanilla FP system...

Working on a Charon Class frigate.

I'm not the dev, and it hasn't been released yet, but as far as I know it's just the shape. Please, please tell me, how did you import from SMEdit into the current version!? SMEdit can only export smd2, not smd3?

Working on a Charon Class frigate.

If you don't change it by using cut/paste, and want to restart, you might want to wait a few days until this tool is released, and use it: binvox to sm3 blueprint (WIP) SMEdit isn't up to date, and can't export the current file types.

Durendal's Random Ideas II (Billboard, Managers, Leasing, Shopyards, BP Mass, Hard Cash)

I like number three, if it can be done effectively and have the predicted positive impact. Don't really want to like the whole post though... 7 would never work. Even if you disabled build mode so that it couldn't be copied into a template, people would edit files directly to remove the DRM...

      Thrust Management by thruster group

Extensive? No. But yes, I am familiar with the ship file structures, and it's trivial to rotate blocks. I'm sure there are plenty of players who feel it broke their ships: "breaking" ships is acceptable in Alpha. (I personally support aux power instead of docked thrusters). Absolutely it...

      Thrust Management by thruster group

Relax, my idea isn't new or obscure, it's obvious. The devs have undoubtedly considered it in the past and decided not to use it. It's just that the OP's idea adds nothing to the game. It's effectively identical to the system we have, except that your thrust profile may change as you take...

      Thrust Management by thruster group

Alpha? Thrustersticks would just require 6 thrusters instead of 1.

      Multiple Invincible Stations

Wouldn't a faction becoming more fragile and vulnerable as it becomes more powerful be desirable? That way you avoid a faction becoming too powerful to challenge. This suggestion means that the most powerful faction could increase their advantage over the next most powerful faction.

      Thrust Management by thruster group

It wouldn't be necessary to have thrust management at all - thrust could simply be assigned by the direction thrusters are facing.

      More versatile shipyard construction

I kind of like the look of the current yards, with the big enveloping gantries, but maybe that's just me! :)

Anyone already written an .smtpl<->.schematic converter? EDIT: was ".smd3<->.schematic"

I've been thinking more about this and my previous reply to it terra. Obviously I can't do anything about server restrictions, but I can assist in using templates for entire ships: A player can convert a .smtpl to a blueprint by placing a core in their local single player creative server...

      How do YOU use warheads?

I've never actually used a torpedo myself, so I'm not able to offer an informed opinion, but alterintel's design shown in this thread took out 300+ blocks through 5 million shields, using 10 warhead blocks as the payload.

Anyone already written an .smtpl<->.schematic converter? EDIT: was ".smd3<->.schematic"

I don't know, but I don't see why not. The problem is most likely to be the size restriction servers place on copy/paste areas. A whole ship might have to be split up.... Also, perhaps placing it in the correct location with respect to the core might be difficult, although if it were split...

Planned Jump Interdiction (Station-only parts, prevent jumping INTO sectors)

You will, but newbs in that situation can't. People will troll less players less powerful than themselves. It's a function that will be abused. People will be funnelled into stars. A pirate station is no threat to you, but it's utter destruction for a newb. You can't destroy it if it's...

Planned Jump Interdiction (Station-only parts, prevent jumping INTO sectors)

Sorry, I probably didn't write that clearly. I mean that Faction A has an inhibitor on their station, and its sphere/cube of influence covers the nearby station of Faction B. So Faction B players are unable to jump to their own station, thanks to the Faction A inhibitor.

Planned Jump Interdiction (Station-only parts, prevent jumping INTO sectors)

Another thought on how this can be abused (as it's written): the rannge radius of 3 sectors means your station jump inhibitor can prevevt players jumping to their own nearby stations. The area of effect needs to be kept to the single sector the station is in.
