Improving the Quality of Diplomatic, Factional and Economic Gameplay

Great reply Poofer. I'll be editting the OP with some of what you said in mind. After thinking it through though, I realize you're right about the shops. Most of the production is done from within the faction and bulk trades are done in person, making shop modules generally irrelevant. However...

Improving the Quality of Diplomatic, Factional and Economic Gameplay

Introduction and Synopsis The main goal of this post is to describe, inform, and suggest how faction actions could be modified to allow a greater incentive for some form of roleplaying. These suggestions will improve the quality of Starmade gameplay greatly, it will make factions interesting, it...

A Manifesto on Fuel, Balancing, and Various Play Styles

So much yes in this thread. This is just what Starmade needs. This whole OP post is a masterpiece.

      procedurally generated horror mobs

I think Starmade most certainly should have some creepy/scary/horific elements. Think about Star Trek, Aliens, or Prometheus. There are lots of Sci-Fi space games/movies with horror elements. And it makes sense. In the vast, deep and infinite darkness of space, who knows what you'll find...

      New gamemode ideas

This is creative, definitely. Players of Starmade are liking looking in a completely different direction, however. With the way things are going, I'd assume if they ever added a survival aspect it would be very similar to X3 or Evochron:Mercenary. In your description and idea it turns things...

      Distress Beacons

I think this should be added, it's a good concept. There are some unfortunate problems such as; What would stop you from killing yourself and getting back to your ship? What would stop you from repairing your ship? What would stop you from sending a global chat message? What about a faction...

      Introduction thread!

Hello! There sure are some tutorials. You can go to the wiki to learn the basics about some stuff. Here's a tutorial on power. And here's one about how to make weapons/effects in Starmade. Finally, you can learn a lot just by asking people on the forums. Thanks for playing Starmae. =)

Learning from Minecraft (Galacti Craft Mod)

It's a good idea in theory. I, however, feel that the developers have Starmade going in a direction of simplicity and ease of building ships to cater to a larger audience. Starmade community is quite against fuel being added is it creates a new tedium of a few problems. For example, you could...

      Alpha-numeric blocks

This would actually be interesting. I can, however, see a few difficulties with how it could be implemented. For example, as you said they would need to include a new rotation form of block orientation. In addition, it may be tedious if they have to make a bunch of different text colours, a...

Planet Mining modules, fuel compromise, and the likes.

Yeah, to be honest I don't think the current system is going to stay forever. There are a lot of suggestions floating around right now- my personal favourite is the one where you have to have the blocks requested by the blueprint in your inventory when you craft it OR the resources have to all...

      Planet Contesting

I should clarify further. What I'm asking is that it will allow other factions to claim segments that do not have a faction module on them already, but only if the planet is not a faction homebase. Here's a scenario: Faction 1 claims a space station and sets it as a homebase. Faction 1 then...

      More detailed faction point "bill"

Good idea, there's no big reason this shouldn't be added. +1

Character behind or in a ship

I agree with you two, Lozdy and CyberTao. Astronauts shouldn't show up on the nav map; it's not like they're blasting long rage detectable radiation from their bodies. (Not unless, as CyberTao pointed out, they use a signal emitter.) Also to MacThule, I like the tricorders idea. =)

      Planet Contesting

During a "lan party" I found it to be enjoyable for every person to begin the game on one planet each with no items or money and the goal of the game was for one player to "own" the whole planet by whatever means necessary. Unfortunately, only one faction could own the planet/planet segments, so...

Planet Mining modules, fuel compromise, and the likes.

Yeah you're right. There's got to be a lot of optimizing in Starmade to keep people from circumventing the systems. Of course, if someone doesn't at all like the idea of a maximum stack size, they could turn it off in the server options, as well as most other things.

Planet Mining modules, fuel compromise, and the likes.

First of all, I'll start off saying that the Starmade economy is far from perfect, and far from what people likely want. The game is not technically "released" yet and thus will take many updates to fully perfect things, but in my opinion the game economy will need some major work, especially...

      Error: Failed to save game

It seems my Starmade refuses to save the game ever while playing on singleplayer. It goes with the normal "saving game" blue popup on the left, and then a red one says something similar to "error: failed to save game". It does save my inventory, credits and blueprints, but never the ships...

What is the "HP system" I've heard about?

I've heard people talk about an "HP system" a few times during discussions of how shields/hulls/shipcores should work and I just want to inquire into what exactly this means. I've never seen anything specific said about it so I'm assuming I may be just as in the dark as everyone else is, but...

Bug Everything I put on planets disapears on the next logon

It seems that I put anything on a planet it disapears after I log-off and then back on. I made a factory and a docking module(and docked my ship) and then I logged off. When I logged back in, the entire planet looked pristine and untouched, my factory was gone and so was my ship- the only things...
