Placing blocks in collision detection areas?

Thanks for the replies - rotating the ship definitely helps.

Placing blocks in collision detection areas?

Does anyone have any tricks for placing blocks around a docked entity where a collision is detected even though the space is actually open? Sometimes I can win out by placing more blocks adjacent to the conflicted space and then trying again, but I've run into a few places where it stubbornly...

      Logic Cortex -Programmable Microprocessor (WIP)

I can make doors open and close. Every once in a while a light flashes.

      Capital Ships?

I hope it's not limited to one ship per faction. Maybe one ship per player. Otherwise, it seems like it would draw players away from joining together in factions in favor of creating a bunch of one-man factions.

      Kupu's thread

I'd personally prefer that, at a minimum, the textures were swapped for basic hull and standard armor. As it stands, the appearance of the basic hull is closer in appearance to advanced armor, with the only real difference being the rivets in the corners on advanced armor. Meanwhile, standard...

Discussion about future NPC Factions and villain concept

How about a faction that spawns tiny ships instead? I'm thinking that it would create ships that were essentially a warhead and a ship core. Such ships would be easy to knock out, but would be a real pest if they got past your defenses - kind of like a creeper from Minecraft. The faction...

      Capital Ships?

Yeah, I don't recall the timeline post as providing much in the way of specifics. I'm haunted by a video I saw the other week where a regular contributor (and maybe a past or present council member) was creating a space for a shipyard on his capital ship. It was the first time I'd heard that...

      StarMade Active Development Timeline

If nothing else, perhaps just make a life support block that works similarly to the gravity module. That is, you don't need to wear a helmet while attached to the ship after having activated the new block. Sure, it means you can wander around the exterior of your ship, but it does limit your...

      Capital Ships?

Is there some place where I can find information on what features are currently planned for capital ships, and how they differ from regular ships? I've seen them referenced in video and forum posts a number of times, and I feel like I must have missed some post by the developers. Thanks.

Personal Build Challenges you give yourself?

Creation of a logic system to automate production of everything. I managed to get most of the system completed once, but a server reset wiped it out. That system had an activation button for each item in game, so I had rows of buttons. For stuff like hull I was able to save room by combining...

      Docked Entities and camera blocks

I think the default key is the right shift, which allows you to pan around while looking through a camera. Thus allowing you to look in any direction regardless of the facing of the camera.

[Philoshopy] Why do we keep trying to build something pretty ?

I dunno, I think that one of the new ships I've been working on might do okay against fleets of smaller ships. Each turret has the size, shielding, and firepower of a small capital ship and is entirely self-sustainable. It's kind of like I've docked a fleet of frigates onto their mother ship...

      Help with cargo ship.

I'd say you either want to use the new carrier automatic docking block, or magnetic rails. Carrier block: put a docking block on the bottom of your container, move your ship so the docking block is within range. Undock the cargo container from your ship. Rails: To make magnetic docking...

To answer your question mr. streamer

I've long wanted ladders in the game. I agree with the idea of making them 1/4 slab (or slab capable.) I don't necessarily think they have to be functional (they actually allow you to climb in gravity.) I just put bunk beds in a new ship, and I struggled to find a suitable block to act as a...

How does one make a good looking ship?

I look at a lot of sci-fi art and pick out things I like - it might be a wing, an engine, an antenna array, or whatever. As I'm laying out a ship, I look for places where I can use those designs, or take inspiration from them for something new. Also, I look for patterns - pieces that I can use...

[Philoshopy] Why do we keep trying to build something pretty ?

I need something that can hold my attention, and just slapping cubes together for firepower doesn't do it. I also want my ships to be comfortable and provide amenities since they'll be my in-game home. That's not to say that a ship's appearance trumps its effectiveness. The two aspects go...

      Weapon Choice for Personal Fighter

I use beam+cannon+piercing anytime I plan on manually operating the weapon. I didn't even think explosive was an option with beams. Anyway, my main consideration is that I can't hit anything at longer ranges than what beam+cannon offers, and beam removes the need to lead the target.

      Why Hunt pirates?

If you're only dealing with Isanths, guided missiles with explosive effect work well. A single missile hit could knock one out. Until I started playing on servers with custom pirates, most of my ships used missile turrets. Battles using cannon turrets could take 30 minutes or more, while...

Brilliant/Horrible idea for Large/Small ship balance. OMG

I am concerned about game resources. I already see my PC laboring to keep track of all the docked entities on a ship, and all of the other ships around me. What is going to happen when we have AI roaming the halls of these ships, as well? Do we really want to add in constant checking for...
